Sep. 30th, 2008 04:33 pmToday has been study day, since I have two exams tomorrow (originally three were scheduled, but one got bumped to Monday).
I decided to go to a library, since I was worried I wouldn't be able to concentrate at home. So I did some research, and what do you know? There's a branch of the Worcester Public Library less than two miles from my house! So I grabbed my stuff, and headed over.
I follow my directions, and quickly realize I'm heading into one of the bad parts of town. I recognize the area I'm in as what has been described to me as Worcester's projects. It increasingly looks like an area I wouldn't want to get out of my vehicle for any period of time. And I come to the library. Which is a building that appears about the size of the first floor of my apartment. At which point, I decide this is a poor idea.
I turned around and headed to Barnes and Noble to get a latte. While I got my drink, I talked to my boss, who said there was another branch near the Halloween Outlet, and I should try there. So I got back in my car and headed out.
This branch was slightly bigger, and the neighborhood seemed safe. As I pulled up, I saw workers performing some sort of mechanical surgery on the doors. With very loud tools. I went in, and found a room packed with shelves. From a quick glance, it appeared the first half of the room was children's and the second half was magazines and DVDs (note - Mike should get a library card, they had a very wide selection of DVDs). In the middle was the very small circulation desk. And not a workspace to be found. Did I mention that there were no "inside voices" being used? Not even by the adults?
So I turned around and came home. I set up in our office, and got quite a bit of studying done, interspersed with other assignments due in the coming week. Maybe next time I'll try one of the college libraries.
