Mar. 10th, 2008 09:15 amFirst things first, here. WELCOME TO LIVEJOURNAL,
l3arcelona!!!! I have finally converted the poor boy. I guess this means I have to stop talking about him like he can't read my entries. ;)
Now, on to D-land. I think that is what I am going to refer to Germany/Deutschland from now on. Niki is safely here. Whoever had 3:30 pm on Sunday wins. ;) We dealt, though, and now that Niki has slept and we are in a Dunkin Donuts with the internet, she is much cheerier. I am getting play-by-plays of lj entries from her, it is fairly funny.
Oh, so in case
l3arcelona (or any of the rest of you) is interested, there is daylight savings time in Germany, it just is not until the last Sunday in March. This is because the U.S. is crazy, and a year ago (I believe) the U.S. decided to move daylight savings earlier (because we Americans clearly control time). So now it is five hours time difference rather than six.
Let us see, what else. So because I am a major pain in the ass, after one sleepless night in the hostel, I declared to
evilnicola that I would not stay there another night and went and got a room at a real hotel. It was just too much for my nervousness (worried constantly things will get stolen, etc) and my pickiness (temperature, light, etc are much harder to control, no personal phone access, etc). So we have all of our crap with us again, and we check in to the other hotel at 2:30.
We had a wonderful time just wandering the city yesterday afternoon, saw Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, Hitler's Bunker (slash parking lot), chunks of the wall, and a number of random other places. It was very neat and historical feeling. We both took lots of pictures, though we will need to exchange pics at the end of this trip, because we each only have pics of the other.
We had a nice dinner of spinach and ricotta ravioli, Niki took a nap, and we wandered around trying to find a place to drink for a while after dark. We finally found this place called Delicious Donuts (oddly, they do not serve donuts) that was neat. We sat at the bar, and after one drink the bartender informed me that the guy sitting two stools down wanted to invite me for a drink. I said "Nein danke." Then, a large group of Americans came into the bar, apparently on a walking tour of the bars of Berlin. Nik and I were both glad when they left. We had another couple drinks, and headed back to the hostel.
I think that is the jist of the past day or so. I hope all is well stateside, I miss you all (especially you,
13arcelona), and I hope to catch up with you soon!
Tschus!
