Okay, let's see.

Since posting yesterday, we have had a number of exciting events.

We had lunch at the food court in one of the malls, I had a quesadilla and pommes frites, while Nik had some asian soup thing (I´m sure she will post later with a clarification. Interestingly, most of the food in the food court is served on real, not paper, plates. I thought that was pretty neat.

I was really exhausted since I barely slept the night before, so I proposed we camp out in the hotel, and maybe we would be able to check in early. Lo and behold, they let us check in an hour early. I gave Mike a quick call at work, and took a nap. After the nap was time for showers. And let me tell you, our hotel room has a wonderful shower. We also discovered that the "queen" size bed was really two twins pushed together. Pulling them apart means all sorts of wonderful things, like me being able to sleep without Nik kicking me.

We decided to go rent bikes and ride around once we were up and showered, but upon arriving at the bike place, discovered that they close at 6. So we headed to the DDR museum. It was super cool, and we took lots of pictures (including a couple that appear to show Nik driving a DDR car into me).

We were both hungry, and when Toscano women get hungry, we get unpleasant (as many of you know). We had a tiff, and I headed off to find food alone. I had orange chicken at a chinese food place (I know, we should be eating bratwurst and that kind of stuff, but my stomach is not willing to chance it, and you will soon hear about Niki's), and wandered around the hotel area before going back to the room.

Nik was asleep when I got back, so I read for a while and went to bed myself. I woke up around midnight and called [livejournal.com profile] 13arcelona, who has already shared his funny phone antics. In my defense, I was tired and confused. We chatted for a while, I wish he were here with me.

Nik and I both read for a while after I got off the phone. She said her back was bothering her, so I gave her some ibuprofin and cereal bars to eat with the ibuprofin, and we went to sleep. Not long later, I woke up to the sounds of her vomiting in the bathroom. She threw up at least once more during the night, and then again in the morning. Neither of us is sure why, but she does not seem otherwise ill.

Our plans for the day were to go to Sachenhausen (I believe that is the spelling), one of the concentration camps. When we were getting ready to leave, she still was not feeling quite right, so she asked me to get a coffee for her and then go on my way. By the time I was back with coffee, she said she was feeling better, so we went to try to find the tour location to head to Sachenhausen.

We got to the place the tour set out from, and the girl at the bike rental place told us it was seasonal, and not running right now. She called the camp (or the ticket place at the camp, whatever), and they said they were open till 4:30, but unsure of the train situation. We thanked her, and once we discussed it, figured that public transit can not be relied on (I do not know if I mentioned there is a transit strike right now), and decided to do museums instead.

For the museums, it is suffice to say that they were amazing, and we took lots and lots of pictures. One pass got us into three museums, but after the second Nik was feeling ill again. She headed back to the hotel and I went to the last museum. On the way back, I stopped and did some souvenir shopping, and got hit on by a guy in Berlin for a physical therapists conference (or so he said), who wanted me to walk around and see the sites with him. I told him I couldn't, and walked away. Now I am here!

I am headed back to the hotel now to check on Niki and take a nap myself, I am exhausted! Oh, I forgot to mention that we tried to go to the top of the TV tower in Alexanderplatz, but it was closed due to the wind. Also, I keep calling it the space needle, because that is what it looks like! Time for naps, I am sure Nik or I (or both) will be back to the internet this evening at some point, unless Berlin drags us in another direction.
