So Thursday we went to the Sole Proprietor. For our appetizer, we had the Goat Cheese Cake, which is described as "Oven baked Vermont goat cheese and walnut cake served with red onion jam, fig balsamic vinaigrette and toasted baguettes." Mike was unsure about it until he tried it, and proclaimed, "I love goat cheese!" Of course, I had told him that he liked it when we ordered. :) The baguettes were slightly stale, but I would definitely get it again.
For our meals, I ordered the Pepper Crusted Mako, "Grilled pepper crusted mako with roasted shallot whipped potato, garlicky spinach and lemon thyme beurre blanc." It was incredible. I just ate the leftovers, so the taste is fresh in my mind. :) The mako was so tender, and the sides were delicious. Mike had Swordfish with Braised Artichokes, "Grilled Atlantic swordfish with braised artichokes, oven roasted
tomatoes, kalamata olives and herb roasted red bliss potatoes." He said that it was good, and he would order it again.
We also had a nice Chilean red wine with dinner, the "Santa Rita, Cabernet, Chile, 2005," since Mike has decided we both enjoy Chilean wines, and/or Cabernets.
Friday was sushi at our house, with Mom, Dave, Lisa, and Jenna. It was really nice to have people here, I'd love to have gatherings more often.
Yesterday, Mike and I did pretty much nothing. We hung around watching movies and tv, and we took a break to buy ingredients for "The Suzy Homemaker Hour." I mixed a spiced rum to age alongside the chamomile vodka experiment. I also made homemade peanut butter cups.
Today we made the trip out to the Big E, which was a world of carnival fun and excitement. We saw lots of cool stuff, including my favorite part of the Big E, the state buildings. We had carnival food, and I picked the lucky key to open the treasure chest at the Foxwoods booth, winning the prize of a backpack, t-shirt, and visor with the Foxwoods emblem. I wanted to hit Webs on the way home, but I guess they aren't open Sundays. Sad.
We're watching TrueBlood now, and off to bed soon. It was a nice weekend. :)

Date: 2008-09-15 01:46 am (UTC)Bring a small cooler to Crown if you come.
Or maybe we will bring one down to Coronation.
Argyle, the next town over, more or less, has four or five cheese producers. There's great goat cheese up here.
This was the weekend of the Cheese Tour.
;)
I miss the Big E.
I love the state building, too.
