What the FUCK? Now, all of a sudden, oh, twelve hours after symptoms stopped, I'm having them again! WHAT THE FUCK?

Grr, I want to knit, but I didn't bring knitting to school with me.

Oh wait, that's because I should be studying for my 6pm stats exam.

Double grr.

It has not been a good day. And it's not even ten o'clock.

When I went out to my car this morning, I discovered a very slushy driveway. Luckily I was wearing boots, so my feet stayed dry.

I got in my car, and started it. Something was not right. I turned on the heat, but the heat did not turn on. Then I realized that the radio was not working, nor were the windshield wipers. I turned the car off, and back on again, and everything was fine.

Five minutes down the road I wondered if I had the portable battery charger in my car. Ten minutes later I realized I forgot my glasses (but remembered the cloth to clean them with).

I got to campus, got out of my car, and noticed my vision was a little weird. By the time I walked across campus and stopped at a restroom, I realized that I was having another episode.

Migraine episode details cut for length )

This sucks.

Oh, and I would declare today over and go home, but I have an exam in my last class of the day, which is at 6 pm. And the professor is going to lecture after the exam. Ugh.

I'm posting from my brand new Acer! Yay! Mike set it up for me, and I guess had some problems with it right out of the box, but things seem to be okay now. I'm glad he took care of it, because while I'm good at things, computers are not at the top of that list. I'm not bad, but I'm no expert.

It's so tiny! Mike and I are sitting here with him on his monster Dell, and me on the Acer, and it's pretty funny.

I'm excited to have this, I think it'll be great to have for school. Carrying around the Dell has gotten to be a pain in the butt, and this thing can practically fit in my purse. Yippee!

Last night, in lieu of any sort of Valentine's Day celebration (since I don't believe in celebrating it), we had an impromptu gathering of some friends. Jenna and Jeff came up from CT, and Jana (who I work with) brought her boyfriend John over. I just now realized how many J's there were here last night.

I made a brown rice and veggie casserole, which was okay, but needed something else. I thought it was kind of bland, Jenna suggested sun-dried tomatoes.

We played silly games, drank wine, and had a very nice time. We were up too late, but that always happens.

This morning, I got up to go to the gym, and felt a sharp pain in the ball of my foot. Mike looked at it, and determined there was something in it, probably glass since we had broken a glass last night. He dug at it for a while, and pulled out the tiniest piece of glass.

So off to the gym I went, for step class. I took Mike's truck, since it was blocking me in. Class was fun, and very challenging. I stayed a bit after, to ask the instructor to show me a move that I couldn't figure out, and another girl had the same confusion, so I wasn't alone. We got it pretty quickly with the one-on-one instruction, which is good, because we'll be doing it again next week.

When I got home from the gym, Mike was outside washing my car! He cleaned it completely inside and outside, and it looks brand new. He had joked a couple times over the weekend about getting me a new car, so now I have one. :)

No big plans for today, I'll probably rock the craftiness for a while.

I think the dress that Tori Spelling modeled for the Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection is so cute!

So I just got a call from my neurologist.

He said the MRA was fine, and the MRI had a slight mark, which is most likely a "vascular birth mark" on my brain and unrelated to any of my symptoms. He recommends having another MRI in a year to make sure it hasn't changed by then.

My brain isn't going to explode, yay!

Have any of you fitness-types heard of calorie cycling?

From what I understand, the basic idea is to vary your calorie intake from day to day, so that you basically trick your body into thinking your aren't on a diet. Supposedly, you won't hit the "plateau" a lot of people hit when they've been going at the dieting/exercise thing for a while.

I've been trying to find info on it, and a quick search didn't give me much other than people's personal pages talking about it. I'm looking for some sort of a fitness/medical/expert standpoint on it. It seems like an interesting idea.

I also have a terrible memory.

Leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! Don't send me a message. Leave a comment on here. Next, if you want to, re-post this in your notes and see how many people leave a memory about you!

I just had a very odd dream, of which I remember about the last minute and a half.

It was Sharc Christmas, and Fergus had gone out for some sort of ethnic food, and brought back leftovers. He was showing Rhi some weird soup, who said, "Oh, that's dashishencock! T likes fennel. She's like a #9 groupie, she follows it on tour through Vermont and most of upstate New York!"

"True," I said, "What's dashishencock?"

"It's a soup made from Magic Hat #9 and dropped egg whites," Rhi said.

I agreed that it sounded delicious, and Fergus replied by offering me some foam cut-outs of egg whites, but not the soup.

...
I have weird dreams.

So I'm getting on this exercise kick. I've gained quite a bit of weight in the past year and a half, and I'd like to get back at least closer to where I was then. I know it's not realistic to think I'll weigh 110 lbs for the rest of my life, but I'm well into the "overweight" territory. I don't feel as healthy as I used to, either, so hopefully this working out thing will help.

I've started going to classes at my gym, because I figure that will kick my ass in gear. And so far, it's been working. I feel better, I'm excited to go, and I think I'm sleeping a little better too. I know, three weeks of classes isn't a lot, but it's a start.

I have taken step classes a few times, which I really like, and seem to be good at. The class I picked to start with is a Sunday morning class, and I didn't know until the end of the second class that it's an intermediate level class. I'm generally keeping up, though, so I feel pretty good about that. I'm going to step again tonight, I think it's a different instructor, so it'll be interesting.

Last week, I posted that I went to the wrong class, and that class was Powerflex, which involves weights. It was tough, but I think I'll try to go wednesday. I want to do some weight training as well as cardio. I also want to try Urban Rebounding, which is basically jumping on a trampoline for 45 minutes, and Pilates, which I've never done and am a little anxious about trying.

I'm trying to do a little extra when I go to the gym for classes, like 20 minutes or so on the elliptical, to get an extra boost. I'd like to spend at least an hour at the gym five days a week (Tuesdays are crafty night and Thursdays I have class 8 am till 8:50 pm).

Aside from that, I haven't gotten my MRI results, I still have large bruises, school is going well, and I'm employee of the month at B&N. I missed everyone who went skiing, but I'm glad I stayed home, because bruises + ski jacket = disaster.

The past 20 or so hours have kind of sucked. Yesterday afternoon, I misread the gym schedule and showed up 45 minutes early for the wrong class. I worked out on the elliptical, then took the class anyway, but that was bound to make me sore today.

Next up was the trip to the MRI center, where they proceeded to make me into a human pincushion. It took three tries and four people to successfully get the IV needle for the contrast dye in. I was a wreck, and I think I probably bruised at least one tech's hand. They deserve it though, since I have three painful bruises myself from the needles. The MRI itself was about an hour, and wholy unpleasant.

Then, after a fairly restless night of sleep, the first thing I did after stepping out my front door was take a spill down our ice covered front steps. They were covered in ice because our landlord won't put on a gutter because he doesn't want water pooling in the driveway. So instead, we have icy steps. Nice trade.

I want a do-over.

Liam-style: Student Union Cafe Edition

1. I don't really like Thursdays. My first class is at 8 am, and my last doesn't end till 8:50 pm, so what with the commute, it makes for a really long day. It's nice that I have three breaks ranging in time from an hour to two hours, but I'd rather have them all back to back and get out of here earlier.

2. I went to the neurologist last Friday, and he said my symptoms are likely migraines. He wanted an MRI anyway, since there's a family history of strokes, and said if I experience the symptoms again, take 2 Aleve right away. If they start becoming a regular occurrence, I get a prescription. I had a headache-only migraine Saturday night, luckily none of the scary symptoms.

3. Birka this weekend! I'm one of the many people looking forward to it. :)

4. I posted a bunch of updates on Ravelry, for those of you on there, and will eventually update [livejournal.com profile] t2knit. A sweater, a vest, some kiddie clothing for my friend Geri who is expecting a baby boy, a couple other things.

5. I wish I could find a job to do in my spare time, with flexible hours and working from home. Most of the stuff I see looks like scams. Are there any real jobs like that out there?

6. I went to my first step class on Sunday, and my calves still hurt. However, I toughed it out for 45 minutes on the elliptical yesterday, and if I get out of work early tomorrow, I'll hit the gym. If not, it's Sunday again for step.

7. Mike and I are planning on going to see the Worcester Sharks play hockey tomorrow night! One of his x-mas presents was four flex tickets (in the Gold section, even!), and this is the first opportunity we've gotten to get to a game.

8. My accounting professor this semester is a) a repeater, as in "No, they don't do that. Okay? They don't do that." for every other sentence. This is very annoying, enough so that I noticed it the second class. And b) not very smart. She lectured for half an hour using the wrong word for a type of account (nominal to mean permanent), and was shocked when I asked her about it after class. At least she acknowledged that she was wrong.

Time for Stats!
theresat: (Default)
1. It's my second day of classes and I'm already avoiding doing reading. I should be reading the first chapter of my Business Communication text right now, but instead I'm updating lj.

2. Classes this semester are:
Acct 310 - Accounting Systems and Concepts
Engl 230 - Business Writing
Fin 330 - Managerial Finance and Control
Math 248 - Business Stats I

I usually take 5 classes, but because of a number of reasons (some of which are my college's fault), I can only take 4 this semester. I will take this as an opportunity to have a relaxing semester, which I very much need.

3. I appear to be safe from the death cold that Mike had for over a week. He's still a bit sniffly, but considering that he missed two days of work last week, he's doing much better.

4. My friend Geri is having a baby boy! He is due about a week after her two year wedding anniversary. I'm knitting like crazy for her already.

5. Speaking of 5, I'm a little sad that I offered five people crafty goodness through the meme that is circulating lj, and I only had two people respond. :(

6. In addition to knitting, I've been doing quite a bit of weaving, and while I had a goal of weaving fabric then sewing it into an outfit for Birka, I think that I won't quite make that. I thought I had another week before I went back to school, so there was a week less of relaxing/tv/weaving/vacation than I originally expected.

7. On Saturday, Mike and I visited two local yarn stores, and I found that I strongly prefer one over the other. Have any of you been to The Sheep Shack in Holden, MA? It's small, but cozy, and very cute. Mike was concerned when we were there because there was quite a bit of estrogen, including a woman who was due this Tuesday. Other than that, he complained very little about being subjected to yarn.

8. Appointment with the neurologist tomorrow morning. I have my ER records and CT scan films to bring in, and I'm a bit anxious, but glad to be getting on the road to answers.

Back to business communication. :/

I did this a couple years ago, and I figure I'll give it a shot again.

Via [livejournal.com profile] lanome this time:

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year.
- You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be knitted, it may be woven, it may be yarn, it may be baked goods mailed to you, it may be.....a surprise!
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well. We all can make stuff!

I want to get a haircut to go with my new glasses, but I don't know what to do with it. I've tried some of those virtual makeover things online, but I've been thus far unhappy with the hairstyles they've provided. I don't really know what to do next.

Suggestions?

Mike just left for Mohegan Sun, where he'll be spending the day with his co-workers.

I was considering snowboarding, until I realized about ten minutes ago that it's three hours away and I just got up.

I'm going to do some cleaning, but after that, I'm taking suggestions on what to do with myself. Any ideas within oh, half an hour or so of me?

Thanks everyone for your advice and kind words.

This is where I'm at now.

I went to the eye doctor, who did an exam and said that other than having an astigmatism and needing glasses, there's nothing wrong with my eyes. I have a prescription for glasses, and got to see what the inside of my eye looks like.

I just scheduled an appointment with a neurologist at UMass, the earliest they could get me in is January 23. There was some bouncing around trying to figure out if they took my insurance, but it seems they do, and I'm on the cancellation list if they have any openings before then. The secretary said that the appointment I have is a very good one, and it's unlikely that I'll get bumped up.

I'll try to work out the primary care stuff on Wednesday, I don't have the energy to deal with it right now.

Oh, and my car wouldn't start when I was preparing to go to the eye doctor, I had to jump it. That was nice.

Thanks to everyone who's been helpful and concerned, especially [livejournal.com profile] l3arcelona, who has fielded nearly half a dozen phone calls, scheduled the eye doctor appointment, recieved many texts, and comforted me when I burst into tears when he came home for lunch.
